  • Dodge Charger also a hot choice for customization with nearly 150 Mopar parts and accessories available
  • Mopar SEMA exhibit features modified Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Charger among 14 total Mopar-customized rides, hundreds of Mopar products
November 1, 2016 , Las Vegas – The Mopar brand isn’t alone in choosing the Jeep® Wrangler and Dodge Charger as perfect canvasses for customization. At the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show Awards Breakfast on Tuesday morning, Jeep Wrangler was recognized as “Hottest 4×4-SUV” on the trade show floor for the seventh consecutive year, while Dodge Charger took home inaugural honors as “Hottest Sedan.”

Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA – Global, attended the breakfast to accept the two SEMA Awards. The brand’s booth at SEMA features Mopar-modified Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Charger vehicles among a total of 14 customized Mopar rides and hundreds of Mopar products in the brand’s 15,345-square-foot exhibit.

“The SEMA Show and SEMA members play a critical role in identifying the hottest trends and rides in the vehicle customization industry, which is why winning a SEMA Award represents an important recognition for our company,” said Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA – Global. “Enthusiasts customize vehicles they love and feel passionate about, and we at Mopar are lucky to have such a great portfolio of vehicles within the FCA umbrella. FCA vehicles are the perfect canvas for our accessories and performance parts.”

Jeep Wrangler is the most Mopar-modified vehicle, with nearly all Wrangler owners customizing their ride with at least one Mopar accessory or part. On average, U.S. customers spent more than $850 in personalizing their Jeep Wrangler vehicle, up from $700 the previous year. For the Dodge Charger, Mopar has nearly 150 accessories and performance parts available to personalize the world’s only four-door muscle car.

Mopar has also established 11 Mopar Custom Shops in four different countries to enable owners to personalize all FCA US vehicles even before they are delivered.

“Jeep is one of the most accessory-friendly vehicles available, having won the SEMA Award as the ‘Hottest 4×4-SUV’ repeatedly,” said SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting. “Given the vehicle’s versatility as a daily driver and for off-road use, it comes as no surprise that the Jeep remains so popular among the automotive community.

“The Dodge Charger is an iconic vehicle among muscle cars and is an example of how an already great vehicle can be made even greater through personalization and customization. There are hundreds of products available for consumers to enhance the performance and styling of their Dodge Chargers.”

The SEMA Awards, launched in 2010, have become the SEMA Show’s definitive OEM award, shining a light on the hottest vehicles that showcase and launch aftermarket parts. For more information on the SEMA Show, visit www.SEMASHOW.com.

Method of Determining Monthly Sales. FCA US’s reported vehicle sales represent unit sales of vehicles to retail customers, deliveries of vehicles to fleet customers and to others such as FCA US’s employees and retirees as well as vehicles used for marketing.  Most of these reported sales reflect retail sales made by dealers out of their own inventory of vehicles previously purchased by them from FCA US.  Reported vehicle units sales do not correspond to FCA US’s reported revenues, which are based on FCA US’s sale and delivery of vehicles, and typically recognized upon shipment to the dealer or end customer. As announced on July 26, 2016, FCA US has modified its methodology for monthly sales reporting as follows:

  • Sales to retail customers by dealers in the U.S. are derived from the New Vehicle Delivery Report (“NVDR”) system and are determined as the sum of (A) all sales recorded by dealers during the month net of all unwound transactions recorded to the end of that month (whether the original sale was recorded in the current month or any prior month); plus (B) all sales of vehicles during that month attributable to past unwinds that had previously been reversed in determining monthly sales (in the current or prior months).
  • Fleet sales are recorded as sales upon the shipment of the vehicle by FCA US to the customer or end user.
  • Other retail sales are recorded either (A) when the sale is recorded in the NVDR system (for sales by dealers in Puerto Rico and limited sales made through distributors that submit NVDRs in the same manner as for sales by U.S. dealers) or (B) upon receipt of a similar delivery notification (for vehicles for which NVDRs are not entered such as vehicles for FCA employees).

All around the world, fathers, brothers and friends face a health crisis that isn’t being talked about. Men are dying too young, before their time and for no biological reason. To address this issue, since 2003 the Movember Foundation has empowered millions of men and women to join the global men’s health movement, raising more than $710 million and funding more than 1,200 breakthrough men’s health programs in 21 countries for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Jeep CJ66
Take a Jeep Wrangler TJ frame, hang a 1966 Jeep Wrangler CJ universal Tuxedo Park body on it, add in Wrangler JK elements and fuel it with new Mopar-powered products set to be revealed later on Tuesday at the Mopar SEMA press event, and you’ve got the Jeep CJ66. The unique cocktail of three Jeep vehicle generations demonstrates that new Mopar power applications are also available for those more at home on the trail than the street. The narrow-bodied Jeep CJ66 harnesses horsepower with a six-speed manual transmission. A Mopar engine cover shelters the powerplant and a Mopar cold-air intake and Mopar cat-back exhaust bump up off-road performance a notch or two. Front and rear Mopar Dana 44 Crate axles help the Wrangler easily crawl over rocks and boulders.

The painted, Copper Canyon-colored body pops, riding high on giant 35-inch BFG all-terrain tires paired with a two-inch lift kit. The BFGs are wrapped around functional, Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) 17-inch beadlock wheels that assist the rubber in negotiating the off-road, with custom beadlock rings painted to match the body color. A concept two-way air system allows off-roaders to quickly air up or air down tires to the desired pressure. Oversized, concept fender flares offer defense against trail obstacles at the front and rear, with added protection delivered by Mopar 10th Anniversary Wrangler JK Rubicon Bumper Kits, JPP skid and front bumper plates and concept JPP rock rails custom cut to fit the Wrangler CJ body.

The Copper Canyon skin is highlighted on both sides with a custom matte-black CJ66 graphic stripe that runs along the side of hood. The concept hood, bezel and latch are also colored matte black, along with the iconic seven-slot Jeep grille and bezels of the Wrangler JK headlamps. Mopar LED amber fog lamps and a Mopar Warn winch, with a fair lead adapter to guide the winch cable, augment the CJ66’s off-road capabilities. The custom, race-car-inspired fuel filler cap is shifted to the inside fender wheel well.

Looking out from the two-inch cropped windshield, the driver and passenger are perched in custom Viper seats featuring concept seat risers. The cockpit is surrounded by a custom-built roll cage, mandril-bent to match the windshield surround. A bikini top netting offers shade and cover from the elements. The center of the custom steering wheel, stamped with the special 50th Anniversary Moab Easter Jeep Safari logo unveiled by the Jeep brand earlier this year, reveals the CJ66’s Moab-inspired origins. A Wrangler JK center console and shifter were imported, with Mopar instrument panel gauges and Mopar all-weather mats completing the interior.

“We are creating this unique Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute concept vehicle in celebration of the brand’s legendary history, and to demonstrate that 75 years later, today’s iconic Jeep Wrangler is instantly recognizable and clearly connected to the original Willys MB,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “Since they were first produced in 1941, Jeep vehicles have been the authentic benchmark for off-road capability, having mastered more terrain, led more adventures and provided drivers more freedom than any other vehicle before or since.”

The “function over form” of the original Jeep military service vehicles is evident in this unique concept vehicle. The Wrangler 75th Salute concept – a modern interpretation of the Willys MB – is based on a two-door Wrangler Sport and highlights rugged functionality with heritage design cues, including the absence of B-pillars and doors. The exterior features an olive-drab color scheme that was first seen on military vehicles 75 years ago and is present throughout the Wrangler 75th Salute concept.

Features, including 16-inch steel wheels wrapped in 32-inch military non-directional tires, hood latches, a rear-mounted spare tire, steel front and rear bumpers with tow hooks and low back canvas seats, echo the original military Jeep vehicles. Other features include custom wood hood blocks and side mirrors, as well as bronze commemorative fender badges.

The Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute concept vehicle is built on the same assembly line that has produced the Wrangler in Toledo, Ohio, for decades, and is powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

About Jeep’s Military History
In July 1940, the U.S. military informed automakers that it was looking for a “light reconnaissance vehicle” to replace the Army’s motorcycle and modified Ford Model-T vehicles. The Army invited 135 manufacturers to bid on production and developed a lengthy specification list for the vehicle, including a 600-lb. load capacity, wheelbase less than 75 inches, height less than 36 inches, smooth-running engine from 3 to 50 miles per hour, rectangular-shaped body, four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, fold-down windshield, three bucket seats, blackout and driving lights and a gross vehicle weight below 1,300 lbs.

At first, Willys-Overland and American Bantam Car Manufacturing Company were the only two companies answering the call. Soon, however, Ford Motor Company entered the picture, and competition began among the three over which company would receive the lucrative government contract.

Each company produced prototypes for testing in record time. The Army took possession of these vehicles in November 1940 at Camp Holabird, Maryland. Each of the three designs exceeded the Army’s specification of 1,300 lbs., but the Army soon realized that limit was far too low and raised it for the next round of vehicles.

The Army issued the next round of contracts in March 1941. Bantam was to produce 1,500 Model 40 BRC vehicles, Ford would build 1,500 modified and improved GP Pygmies and Willys would build 1,500 Quads. Further testing and evaluation led to the Army’s selection of the Willys vehicle as the standard.

With modifications and improvements, the Willys Quad became the MA, and later the MB. But the Army, and the world, came to know it as the Jeep. In 1941, the Willys MB began rolling off the assembly line straight into the heat of battle and the rest is history.

Chrysler, Jeep® Most Improved Brands in J.D. Power 2016 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS)

Dodge Challenger, Chrysler Town & Country Lead Their Segments

  • Chrysler and Jeep® most improved brands in initial quality
  • Dodge Challenger leads Midsize Sporty Car segment in initial quality for third consecutive year, fourth time in six years
  • Chrysler Town & Country is highest ranking Minivan in quality study, Dodge Grand Caravan ranks second in segment
June 22, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – Chrysler and Jeep® are the most improved brands in J.D. Power’s 2016 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) with both brands improving their initial quality scores by 20 percent from last year’s study.

For a third consecutive year and for the fourth time in six years (2011, 2014-16), Dodge Challenger ranks at the top of the Midsize Sporty Car segment.

FCA US minivans also performed well in the study. Chrysler Town & Country ranks highest among Minivans in initial quality with Dodge Grand Caravan taking second place in the segment.

“Our commitment to quality is starting to show results as Chrysler and Jeep make strong improvements in initial quality, but there is still much work to do,” said Scott Garberding, Head of Quality, FCA – Global. “My colleagues and I are focused on continuing the positive momentum created so far as we look to earn and maintain the trust and loyalty of customers across all our brands.”

IQS is based on responses from more than 80,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2016 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study asks customers to identify issues with their vehicles’ design, as well as defects.

“Dodge Challenger continues to impress new owners year after year with the muscle car now leading the Midsize Sporty Car segment in initial quality for the third straight year and the fourth time in six years,” Garberding added. “Chrysler and Dodge minivans continue their leadership position in the segment by taking the top two spots in initial quality.”

The Dodge brand’s Challenger muscle-car arsenal for 2016 is reloaded as the most complete model lineup with 10 trim levels, ranging from the 707-horsepower SRT Hellcat to the 305-horsepower, 30-mpg, 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6-powered SXT model. All 2016 Dodge Challenger models are designed and engineered for world-class precision and outstanding performance.

Challenger previously achieved the highest IQS ranking among Midsize Sporty Cars in 2011, 2014 and 2015, as well as being named a segment leader in the J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM in 2014 and 2015.

The IQS study, now in its 30th year, is based on a 233-question survey conducted between February and May 2016.

2-Door JL Wrangler Spotted

From AutoGuide.com…

2doorJL

The all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler has been spied testing once again, this time with both two- and four-door models.

The prototypes in these shots are still heavily camouflaged, but a few small design details are visible. First of all, the round headlights and iconic seven-slot grille seem to still be in place, showing that the Jeep designers don’t want to stray far from the current look. Small LED light strips have been added to the front wheel arches and the exposed door hinges seen on the current model are still in place. Even the mirrors from the current Wrangler are still being used.

Inside of these prototypes, the dashboard setup is identical to the previous Wrangler, though this may a case of misdirection to keep the new interior design under wraps. It’s not clear if these model are showing production-intent design, or if FCA is simply still testing its powertrains and hasn’t put together a full prototype with a new interior yet. READ MORE AT AUTOGUIDE.COM

Jeep Recalling Wranglers For Air Bags

Jeep and FCA are recalling nearly 400,000 Jeep JK Wranglers and JKU Wrangler Unlimiteds from model years 2007 to 2010 for possible faulty air bags in the steering wheels. The reason for recall is due to dust and dirt accumulation collecting on the clock-spring in the steering wheel assembly. This would prevent the air bag from properly deploying during a collision.

There have been no reports of injuries. See your local dealer for more information.
