All-new Jeep Adventure Reality App
The all-new Jeep Adventure Reality app is the the ultimate ‘build your own’ augmented reality configuration tool, allowing everyone to experience the legendary capability of the Jeep brand anywhere at any time. Available currently for iPhone 7, 8, X and iPad Pro, the app delivers an engaging augmented reality experience where users can configure their vehicle to see what it looks like in their driveway or even their living room.

Consumers are able to explore trim levels, colors and configurations. They will be able to build two-door or four-door, hard top or soft top, change colors, change wheels and, most impressively, go inside the virtual vehicle to see the all-new interior in greater detail. The high-resolution imagery via the app shows what it’s really like to sit behind the wheel or zoom in on the flare vents. Users are able to interact with the vehicle by removing doors, putting the windshield up and down, turning on the headlights, opening the doors, honking the horn and turning the wheels.

This is the only configuration app that allows consumers to see their vehicle in augmented reality and then place it in a virtual reality environment. No goggles needed; just move the phone or tablet from side to side to see all around. Once the consumer has built their vehicle, they can share it socially and/or link to www.jeep.com for more information, including finding a dealer, searching new inventory or continuing their build for up-to-date pricing information.

Uconnect App Smartwatch Compatibility
FCA US customers can continue to stay conveniently connected to their vehicles with new Uconnect App Smartwatch integration. The Uconnect App is now compatible with the Apple Watch and Android Wear devices, allowing owners to quickly and remotely start their vehicle, lock and unlock doors, sound the horn and flash lights directly from their smartwatch.

Uconnect App Smartwatch compatibility is currently available for model-year 2018 vehicles equipped with SiriusXM Guardian connected services. Owners can download the Uconnect app to their smartphone via the App Store or Google Play and pair it with their smartwatch device.

Family Alerts
From new teen drivers to an aging parent, the new Family Alerts feature provides peace of mind when they are out on the road. Vehicle owners can set boundary limits, monitor driving speed and pinpoint vehicle location at any time via the Uconnect Smartphone app:

  • Boundary Alert –  Vehicle owners can create up to five geo-fence boundaries and will be alerted the moment their vehicle is driven either out of or in to a pre-set geographic boundary
  • Curfew Alert – Family Alerts help to enforce set curfew times. An alert will instantly let owners know when their vehicle is being driven outside of the curfew time assigned
  • Speed Alerts – Healthy driving habits can be practiced with the Speed Alert. Vehicle owners can set speed parameters and will receive a notification whenever their vehicle exceeds a set limit
  • Valet Alert – With Valet Alert, vehicle owners can hand over their keys with peace of mind. Owners will receive an alert the moment their vehicle is driven outside a 0.25-mile radius of a drop-off zone

The Family Alerts service requires a subscription to SiriusXM Guardian connected services and is available on 2018 model-year vehicles equipped with a Uconnect 4C NAV system. A radius can be set between 0.25 and five miles and alerts are sent as a message option via email or phone text.

Drive ‘n Save
Drive ‘n Save is a new benefit of Uconnect that allows owners of FCA US connected vehicles to save on auto insurance based on good driving habits, such as following smooth acceleration, braking cautiously and even limiting late-night driving.

Launching in 2018 on vehicles equipped with Uconnect Access or SiriusXM Guardian connected services, all owners have to do is sign up, enroll and then drive – Uconnect will take care of the rest by collecting information about how their vehicle is driven. With that data, a personalized driving score is created, informing owners of how they are driving and can be viewed via a VIN-specific account on Mopar.com. Drive ‘n Save will continually collect data for three months to ensure accuracy. The better the driving habits, the higher the driving score and based on the driving score alone, owners are able to receive discounts on auto insurance.

The score stays anonymous until drivers choose to start the conversation with insurance companies in their online account. Personal information recorded stays private and there is no risk of drivers’ rates going up. Drive ‘n Save has the ability to get drivers on the right track with friendly recommendations and helpful tips that can increase their driving score.

Online Search for Uconnect Navigation
Looking for a new restaurant that just opened? Online Search for Uconnect Navigation can help. Available for vehicles equipped with Uconnect navigation, Online Search goes beyond the built-in Point of Interest database and is enhanced with up-to-date search results pulled directly from the cloud using a built-in cellular connection.

Using the Point of Interest search box via the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Online Search helps consumers search for a larger variety of locations and helps navigate past destinations that may no longer be in operation.

Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa and Amazon Echo Dot Devices
First launched on the 2018 Jeep Cherokee, Jeep vehicles continue to enhance the owner connection with the integration of the Jeep skill for Amazon Alexa. Alexa is Amazon’s voice service and is behind devices such as the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show. Alexa provides a set of capabilities referred to as skills, which enable customers to make voice-activated requests.

Jeep skill responds to a multitude of voice commands via Alexa. The menu of commands can start the vehicle’s engine, lock and unlock doors, send navigation instructions to the vehicle, plus check fuel and tire pressure levels.

To initiate the Jeep skill for Amazon Alexa, owners must register with SiriusXM Guardian connected services, then search for and enable the Jeep skill in the skills store in the Alexa app. Once the customer’s SiriusXM Guardian and Amazon accounts are linked, customers can ask any Alexa device to open the Jeep skill.

Jeep skill for Amazon Alexa in Amazon Echo devices will be made available for the all-new Jeep Wrangler mid-2018 for users to explore.

The FCA US display at the Los Angeles Convention Center includes a four-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and a two-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport uniquely customized with a selection of Jeep Performance Parts and accessories from Mopar.

The Mopar brand’s new lineup for the all-new Jeep Wrangler, first teased in late October during the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, was created after more than 100,000 hours of development, validation and testing. Most of the 200-plus new Jeep Performance Parts and accessories from Mopar for the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be available when the vehicle arrives in dealerships.

“The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most versatile and customized vehicles in the industry,” said Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA. “A total of 98 percent of Jeep Wrangler vehicles are typically outfitted with at least one of our products. We worked with the Jeep brand, engineers and designers to create an exclusive line of parts and accessories that perfectly match the new Jeep Wrangler, delivering unique functionality, style and factory-backed quality. The two customized vehicles at LA showcase our new product portfolio and empower owners to personalize the new Jeep Wrangler for extreme off-roading or for all-purpose lifestyle adventures.”

Mopar-modified four-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
An array of new Jeep Performance Parts and accessories pulled from the Mopar brand’s menu enhances the already legendary off-road capability of the four-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

A set of 2-inch-round steel tube doors adds to the open-air freedom of the all-new Wrangler. The four-door’s eye-catching Mojito Green exterior, a production option, is protected by new Jeep Performance Parts rock rails that are thicker and wider than previous offerings and augmented with a new, grippier coating similar to that used on Ram Truck bedliners.

The production Rubicon front “Stubby” bumper assembly defends the Mopar satin black keystone-shaped grille from trail obstacles and features a water-resistant Mopar Warn winch kit with die cast construction and includes synthetic rope, a wired remote control and hawse fairlead.

The 2-inch lift kit raises the Rubicon for off-road clearance and works in conjunction with production high-top fender flares. BFGoodrich KM2 35-inch tires wrap around new Jeep Performance Parts beadlock-equipped 17-inch aluminum wheels that feature a 12 mm offset to accommodate oversize tires and help tackle off-road conditions.

New LED off-road lights, available in 5- and 7-inch applications, pump out a maximum of 8,000 lumens, putting commercial and military grade illumination into the hands of hard-core off-roaders. The off-road lights mount to the frame rails or windshield via new Jeep Performance Parts off-road light brackets. A new auxiliary switch bank, standard on the Rubicon and an available option for other trim levels, features its own power distribution center and offers an organized central area for operating accessories such as the off-road lights, winch and other electrical-powered items.

A Jeep Performance Parts snorkel embellished with the all-new Jeep Performance Parts badge attaches using a hood cutout kit and works in concert with a Mopar cold-air intake to feed cool air to the 3.6-liter engine and keep water out during deep-water crossings. The all-new Jeep Performance Parts badge is also a unique Mopar accessory that can be applied to toolboxes, Jeep exteriors and more.

The new spare tire tailgate hinge reinforcement is also stamped with the all-new Jeep Performance Parts badge and provides a rock-solid foundation for a spare tire carrier that mounts to the tailgate with strength enough to handle 37-inch tires. The new Mopar Center High-Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) light relocation kit keeps the brake light visible when using the spare tire carrier, without interfering in use of the rearview camera.

Interior customizations include redesigned Mopar Roadside Assistance and First Aid kits. Molle bags on the rear seatbacks allow for extra storage and new Mopar grab handles are now hard-secured with fasteners to the sport bars, offering increased grip.

Durable, all-weather floor mats fit like a glove and feature a new topographic design inspired by the rugged Moab trails. An integrated plug allows accumulated water and debris captured in the high-walled mats to be drained without removal. Katzkin leather seats are embroidered with the distinctive Jeep grille logo in Tungsten stitching. A screen protector, another first-ever Mopar product, protects and even enhances visibility of the 8.4-inch Uconnect system display.

Mopar-modified 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport
Mopar accessories and Jeep Performance Parts work together to deliver go-anywhere, adventure-ready personality and fun utility for the two-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport.

The Mopar roof rack — the first-ever for a Wrangler vehicle — is mounted to the hardtop and is accessorized with a cargo carrier that is added for transport of gear and equipment to fit any active lifestyle. Bicycle, ski and snowboard carriers are also available options.

The newly redesigned Mopar hardtop headliner enhances and insulates the interior while providing a quieter ride. The exterior of the white Wrangler stands out with new American-flag-themed hood graphics and silhouette bodyside graphics that mirror the famed Moab trails.

BFGoodrich KO2 35-inch tires feature Mopar 17-inch “Gear” rims inspired by the shape and design of the all-new Jeep Performance Parts logo. Jeep Performance Parts tube steps and a 2-inch lift kit add off-road touches, and like its four-door counterpart, the two-door all-new Wrangler is also customized with the new spare tire tailgate hinge reinforcement, CHMSL light relocation kit and off-road LED lights.

A first-ever Mopar tailgate table that can be mounted with or without the new production Trailrail system conveniently flips out to create a utility space and beverage holder and folds up for storage. Katzkin leather seats are embroidered with the distinctive Jeep grille logo.

The black fuel door, new from Mopar, has been redesigned to incorporate styling cues of the all-new Wrangler. Mopar doorsill guards, grab handles and all-weather floormats round out the Mopar accessories

The Mopar line of Jeep Performance Parts and accessories for the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be available for purchase when the Wrangler arrives in dealerships. For more information, visit www.Mopar.com/jpp.

November 29, 2017 , Los Angeles – The all-new 2018 Jeep® Wrangler – the most capable and recognized vehicle in the world – builds on its legendary history with an unmatched combination of off-road capability, authentic Jeep design, open-air freedom, advanced fuel-efficient powertrains, superior on- and off-road dynamics, and a host of innovative safety and advanced technology features.

“Jeep has always represented the ultimate in capability and open-air freedom, and our all-new 2018 Wrangler protects that important legacy and takes it into the future,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global.  “The all-new Wrangler is instantly recognizable as a Jeep, staying true to the original, yet it is better in every way – delivering even more rugged capability, more ride comfort, more fuel efficiency courtesy of several advanced powertrain options, more interior comfort, more safety and more technology.”

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2-door model is available in three different trim configurations: Sport, Sport S and Rubicon. Wrangler 4-door models are available in four different trim configurations: Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon.

Legendary go-anywhere 4×4 capability: Most capable SUV ever without compromise
The all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler delivers legendary off-road capability courtesy of two advanced 4×4 systems, and for the first time in Wrangler’s history, a two-speed transfer case with full-time four-wheel drive and a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio that is available on Sahara models. This new Selec-Trac full-time two-speed transfer case is intuitive and allows the driver to set it and forget it, while constantly sending power to the front and rear wheels.

The Command-Trac 4×4 system features a two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio, and next-generation solid Dana front and rear axles with a 3.45 rear axle ratio.

On Wrangler Rubicon, a Rock-Trac 4×4 system features heavy duty next-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles with a “4LO” ratio of 4:1. A 4.10 front and rear axle ratio is standard as are Tru-Lok locking differentials.

Wrangler Rubicon models offer improved articulation and total suspension travel versus the previous generation with help from an electronic sway-bar disconnect. With the standard six-speed manual transmission, Wrangler Rubicon has an impressive and improved crawl ratio of 84.2:1, and 77.2:1 on Rubicon models equipped with the new eight-speed automatic transmission – both of which makes scaling any obstacle on the trail easy.

Both Command-Trac and Rock-Trac systems offer full-time torque management, enabling optimal grip in low-traction conditions.

An available Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential provides extra torque and grip during slippery, low-traction situations, such as driving over sand, gravel, snow or ice.

Every Wrangler model receives a Trail Rated badge thanks to legendary 4×4 capability that includes features such as:

  • Command-Trac 4×4 system with 2.72:1 crawl ratio standard on Sport and Sahara models
  • Rock-Trac 4×4 system with a “4LO” ratio of 4:1 and Tru-Lok locking differentials standard on Rubicon models
  • Skid plates and front and rear tow hooks
  • All-new front fascia and available front and rear steel heavy-duty off-road winch-ready bumpers with removable end caps
  • Industry-leading approach angle of 44 degrees, breakover angle of 27.8 degrees, departure angle of 37 degrees and ground clearance of 10.9 inches
  • Aggressive available 17-inch off-road wheels; Rubicon models get 33-inch tires standard
  • Up to 30 inches of water fording
  • Up to 3,500-lb. towing capacity

Modern take on authentic Jeep Wrangler design
The all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler builds on a sculptural design aesthetic that is immediately recognizable with its traditional Jeep design cues. Wrangler’s new exterior design is bold and rugged with a wide stance and lowered beltline with larger windows for better outward visibility, especially out on the trails.

The Jeep design team gave the legendary seven-slot grille an updated look that now shows both of the outer grille slats intersecting with the headlights, paying homage to the Jeep CJ. The top of the keystone-shaped grille has been gently swept back for improved aerodynamics.

On Sahara and Rubicon models, available LED headlamps and fog lamps offer crisp white lighting and add to the Wrangler’s distinctive look. These models feature daytime running lights that now form a halo around the outside perimeter of the headlights, and standard LED forward turn signals are positioned on the front of the trapezoidal wheel flares. From behind, traditional square tail lamps feature available LED lighting.

Dozens of different door, top and windshield combinations allow for endless configuration possibilities. A new half-door design will be available starting in 2019.

The windshield’s rake has been optimized for improved aerodynamics and features a new four bolt design at the top of the windshield’s frame to allow the windshield to fold down quickly and easily. A new header bar now connects the A-pillars and stays in place even when the windshield is folded down. This allows the rearview mirror to remain in place even with the windshield folded.

Two-piece body-color fender flares with a black lower insert give a raised profile and are standard on Sahara and available on Rubicon models.

New lightweight, high-strength aluminum doors now feature the Torx bit tool size stamped directly onto the hinge to eliminate guessing which tool size is needed to remove the doors.

New for 2018, all Wranglers feature body-colored sport bars, which are welded to the body and feature integrated grab handles.

As the only true open-air 4×4 SUV on the market, an all-new easy-to-use Sky One-Touch powertop strengthens Wrangler’s promise of utility and adventure by allowing occupants to retract the full-length open canvas roof with a push of a button (available in the second quarter of 2018).

An all-new premium Sunrider soft top provides another easy open-air option and has been improved by adding two additional bows to manage the fabric. This new design helps to quiet wind noise and allows for easier access to partial and full open top positions. New for 2018, the soft top features retainers that slide into a track for easier rear passenger window removal.

Wrangler Sahara and Rubicon models share a body-color hardtop option (black on Sport and Sport S), offering a unique, premium appearance while a black three-piece hardtop, available on all models, offers even more options for open-air driving. Lighter Freedom panels and improved latches enable a quicker removal and installation of the hardtop.

Authentic interior design boasts premium features and technology
The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler’s interior combines authentic styling, versatility, comfort and intuitive feature use. Precision craftsmanship and high-quality materials are found throughout the cabin.

The heritage-inspired center stack features a clean, sculpted form that complements the horizontal dashboard design and sports a finish dictated by the model choice. A hand-wrapped instrument panel features a soft-touch surface with accent stitching on Wrangler Sahara models. Functional features, including climate and volume control knobs, media charging and connectivity ports and Engine Stop Start (ESS) control are all sculpted for quick recognition and are easily within reach of the front-seat occupants. Inboard and outboard circular HVAC vents are surrounded by a platinum chrome bezel for a precise and premium yet rugged appearance with full functionality.

Jeep functionality and versatility are celebrated in the center console and distinguished with metal-plated accents. A redesigned center console houses the gear shift selection, transfer case and parking brake. Real bolts featured on the shifter, grab handles and frame the infotainment screen highlight genuine construction methods.

A push-button starter, featuring a weather-proof surround, makes its debut on the 2018 Wrangler and is easily located within the driver’s reach.

Cloth or leather-contoured seats feature accent stitching, and now feature adjustable bolster and lumbar support. Available comfort features include heated front seats and steering wheel.

The driver and front passenger vinyl-wrapped door trim panels are soft to the touch, and the arm rests have been lengthened for better comfort. New Lift-Assist handles under each door armrest feature an integrated pull-cup design that makes door removal quicker and easier than ever. Convenience features include passive entry with Keyless Go.

The instrument cluster features a 3.5- or an available 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) information LED display. The 7-inch LED display allows the driver to configure information in more than 100 ways including current media being played, tire pressure, or digital speed readout. Integrated buttons on the steering wheel control audio, voice, and speed functions and allow the driver to keep their hands on the wheel at all times.

A 7.0- or an available 8.4-inch touchscreen – the most advanced and largest display Uconnect system display ever offered on Wrangler – houses the fourth-generation Uconnect system and now sits prominently atop the center stack. The fourth-generation Uconnect system enhances the user interface and system performance with quicker start up times and improved screen resolution. A 5.0-inch touchscreen is standard on Wrangler Sport. Directly below the touchscreen are functional features such as climate and volume control knobs and media connectivity ports.

Two USB ports up front and two in reach of occupants in the back seat connect to the media center. Standard 12-volt accessory outlets are located throughout the all-new Wrangler and a 115-volt AC outlet is available to power select three-pronged home electronics.

Clever storage solutions are found throughout the 2018 Wrangler, including durable mesh pockets that extend the entire length of the doors and numerous phone storage areas.

The available subwoofer is now located on the right side of the rear cargo area allowing for even more storage space. An under-floor storage area behind the rear seat provides room to secure small items out of sight. The glove box is now damped and like the center console, can be locked to safely secure valuables when the top is down. The available all-new Trail Rail cargo management system allows easy access to the contents in the cargo area and provides additional storage options to organize and secure cargo.

Proven body-on-frame design is the foundation for legendary Jeep capability
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler receives a multitude of improvements to optimize ride, handling and sound characteristics, while reducing weight and improving fuel economy. Utilizing a body-on-frame design, and featuring a superbly engineered five-link suspension system, Wrangler delivers even more capability, with improved on-road driving dynamics and passenger safety.

To protect critical vehicle components while on the trail – including the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan – Wrangler employs four skid plates and bars. Rubicon models benefit from the use of heavy gauge tubular steel rock rails to curtail potential body damage inflicted while out on the trail.

The use of lightweight, high-strength aluminum closures, including the doors, door hinges, hood, fender flares, windshield frame and magnesium swing gate, help reduce weight and boost fuel economy. Other ways the Jeep engineering team looked to reduce weight included using hollow track and stabilizer bars, aluminum engine mounts and steering gear, and a larger, lighter master cylinder.

For 2018, Wrangler continues to utilize the proven five-link coil suspension configuration. Wrangler’s front suspension features a lateral control arm and four longitudinal control arms. Full-width track bars made of forged steel control lateral movement of the axle with minimal angle change during suspension travel. The roll center height has been raised and the spring rates have been retuned to provide a comfortable ride when traveling around town.

The five-link rear suspension features two upper and two lower forged steel control arms for longitudinal control, and a track bar for lateral axle control. The control arms are located outside of the frame rails while the rear shocks are splayed (angled inboard at the top) to provide consistent damping.

The shocks have been retuned and demonstrate optimum balance between on-road handling and legendary off-road capability. Ride comfort, body-roll control, and handling is significantly improved with new shock tuning, hard points, and body mount strategy.

On Wrangler Rubicon models, an electronic front sway-bar disconnect is featured to provide additional wheel travel when the terrain calls for it.

A best-in-class approach angle of 44 degrees, breakover angle of 27.8 degrees, departure angle of 37 degrees and a ground clearance of 10.9 inches allows Wrangler to go anywhere.

Wrangler also benefits from up to 30 inches of water fording and up to 3,500-lb. towing capacity with the available towing package.

Advanced fuel-efficient powertrains
The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 and all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engines join the Wrangler lineup, while the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is upgraded for 2018.

2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine
The all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with eTorque technology is rated a best-in-class 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque and mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder (I-4) engine’s torque output surpasses that of the V-6 engine offered in Wrangler. The all-new eTorque system improves fuel economy, launch performance, and driver comfort during start/stop operations.

The eTorque system’s hybrid functions include auto stop/start, electric power assist, extended fuel shut-off, transmission shift management, intelligent battery charging and regenerative braking. Both the engine and fuel flow may be turned off during stops, coasting or when the engine is decelerating.

The all-new 2.0-liter I-4 engine features a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger with an electronically actuated waste gate for exceptional responsiveness and performance, even while traversing over difficult terrain. The turbo is mounted directly to the cylinder head to improve durability. A dedicated cooling circuit lowers the temperature of the intake air, throttle body and turbocharger.

Direct injection, coupled with turbocharging, enables more efficient combustion and increased performance. The 2.0-liter I-4 engine’s fuel pump supplies the engine’s 2,900-psi high-pressure common-rail injection system. These high pressures produce better fuel atomization and allow for more precise fuel delivery than port fuel-injection systems, which in turn improves both performance and efficiency.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine is part of the Global Medium Engine architecture family and features Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC), dual independent camshaft timing, and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (C-EGR) system. This is the first time that the combined use of a twin-scroll turbocharger, C-EGR system, Central Direct Injection and the independent liquid cooling intake of air, throttle body and turbo have been employed together. This combination of technologies enables the high levels of performance and reduces fuel consumption.

3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine
The FCA US 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and now features Engine Stop-Start (ESS) as standard equipment. It is engineered to provide a broad torque band with a focus on low-end torque – an essential trait needed for extreme off-roading.

An all-new six-speed manual transmission is standard on all Wrangler models equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, and a new-to-Wrangler eight-speed automatic transmission is optional.

Known for its refinement, power, efficiency, and adaptability, there are more than five million 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engines on the road today. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler benefits from the popular V-6 engine’s low-range torque, which is needed when out on the trails or whenever the conditions call for it.

3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine
The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine will be available starting in 2019. Wrangler 4-door models will offer the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine, rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque, with Engine Stop-Start (ESS) standard. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is standard and is designed to handle the increased torque output.

FCA US engineers adapted the engine – manufactured by FCA-owned V.M. Motori – to meet the NAFTA region’s regulatory requirements.

Starting in 2019, the EcoDiesel V-6 engine implements new turbocharger technology with a low-friction bearing designed for low end and transient performance. The upgraded EcoDiesel V-6 engine now also features low-friction pistons to improve fuel economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide an enhanced combustion system – new injector nozzle, piston bowl, and glow plug with integrated combustion pressure sensor to optimize combustion.

Class-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission
The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler offers an eight-speed automatic transmission, enabling the vehicle to optimize engine output while on the trails or enjoying smooth, efficient power delivery at highway speeds. The eight-speed automatic is available on all Jeep Wrangler models.

Wrangler’s eight-speed automatic transmission offers a responsive driving experience. Whether commuting during the week or rock crawling on the weekend, customers will enjoy a smooth, linear power delivery and improved fuel efficiency.

A unique set of two overdrive ratios improve highway fuel economy and reduce overall noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels.

Uniquely suited to the requirements of the Wrangler Rubicon model, the eight-speed automatic transmission delivers a 77.2:1 crawl ratio. The improved 4×4 performance benefits from a 4.7:1 first gear ratio coupled with a 4.1:1 final drive delivers unmatched capability.

Six-speed manual transmission
All-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler models are equipped with the new standard six-speed manual transmission. This transmission features a unique design that employs new gear ratios for improved crawl ratio performance, a new gear pattern, and a cable-operated design, which eliminates shifter vibration and improves sound isolation.

The revised shift pattern features improved shift accuracy, a more comfortable shifting position and 50-percent shorter shifter throws than that of the outgoing Wrangler model.

A 4.41 ratio spread offers improved fuel efficiency at faster speeds and delivers quick acceleration with smooth, precise shift quality.

Fourth-generation Uconnect system delivers advanced technology

Wrangler was subjected to global test miles as well in countries such as China, Brazil, India, Australasia and Italy. In addition to all laboratory and standardized tests, the all-new Wrangler traversed Northern Michigan mud, the Rubicon Trail and everywhere in between.

Manufacturing
Jeep vehicles have called Toledo, Ohio, home for more than 75 years, starting with the early Willys-Overland military models. The Jeep Wrangler was added to the Toledo portfolio in 1992. Since 2006, the iconic Jeep Wrangler has been built in the south plant of the Toledo Assembly Complex, or what has also been known as Toledo Supplier Park, an innovative manufacturing project that engages supplier partners to help build the Wrangler body and chassis before being transferred to the FCA US-managed south plant for final assembly.

The all-new, next-generation Wrangler continues to be built in Toledo, but rolls off the line from Toledo Assembly’s north plant, which ceased production of the Jeep Cherokee on April 6, 2017. Cherokee production was moved to the Belvidere Assembly Plant, located 60 miles west of Chicago, following a $350 million investment.

The Wrangler’s move from the south to the north plant represents the second step of the Company’s two-phased, $3.5 billion industrialization plan to realign its U.S. manufacturing operations to expand the Jeep and Ram brands. FCA US has invested $700 million to retool the north plant for production of the all-new Wrangler and added 700 new jobs.

To date, more than 2 million Wranglers have rolled off the line of Toledo’s south plant.

2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Qualifies for Japan’s Eco-Car Tax Incentive

2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Qualifies for Japan’s Eco-Car Tax Incentive

  • 2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee qualifies for Japan’s Eco-Car consumer tax incentive – only the second gas-powered “all-American” vehicle to do so, after 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
  • Grand Cherokee, the most-awarded SUV of all time, also earns 4-star emissions rating in Japan – a key requirement of the Eco-Car tax program
  • Qualifying Grand Cherokee powered by upgraded version of award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6
  • Upgraded Pentastar V-6 mated to fuel-efficient TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission
  • Jeep is top-selling U.S.-vehicle brand in Japan

May 9, 2017 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – The 2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee premium mid-size SUV has become just the second gasoline-driven, American-made, American-brand vehicle to qualify for Japan’s Eco-Car tax break. The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk was first.

Equipped with versions of the award-winning Pentastar V-6 engine, the 2017 Grand Cherokee and its predecessor met the strict fuel-efficiency and emissions standards allowing them to be eligible for the consumer tax incentive – worth between ¥58,000 and ¥66,000 to Grand Cherokee buyers.

“This achievement reaffirms the flagship status that Grand Cherokee enjoys among SUVs in the global market,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand and Global Lead Executive for International Operations – FCA. “In the wake of the Cherokee’s breakthrough, it also proves – as we say in off-road driving – that only a Jeep can follow another Jeep.”

The Grand Cherokee that qualifies for Japan’s Eco-Tax incentive is powered by an upgraded version of the Pentastar V-6. The original was named three times to the prestigious list of Wards 10 Best Engines – a globally recognized prize for powertrain engineering.

Among the key elements of the upgraded 213-kW (295-horsepower) is two-step variable valve lift (VVL), which boosts fuel economy and Pentastar’s class-leading refinement.

“This singular feature firmly establishes the redesigned Pentastar among the world’s elite, high-volume V-6 engines,” said Bob Lee, Head of Powertrain Coordination, FCA-Global; and Engine, Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion, and Systems Engineering, FCA-North America.

The system is designed to remain mostly in low-lift mode – until the customer demands more power. Then it responds by switching to high-lift mode, which helps deliver more air to the cylinder.

The result: less overall pumping work.

“Factor in the benefits of the engine’s cooled EGR system, and the Pentastar distinguishes itself even further,” Lee adds.

Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) reduces emissions, cuts pumping losses and enables knock-free operation at higher loads.

Fuel-saving Engine Stop-Start (ESS) lends additional appeal to the Grand Cherokee, the most-awarded SUV of all time. ESS reduces fuel consumption by shutting off the engine whenever the vehicle comes to a complete stop.

When the driver lifts his/her foot from the brake pedal, the engine restarts automatically. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s radio, gauges, heating/air-conditioning system and other equipment, remain operational.

The smooth-shifting TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission also contributes significantly to the fuel efficiency of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which achieves a 9.6 km/L fuel-efficiency rating in Japan.

The high-tech gearbox is from a family of transmissions available in more than a dozen FCA vehicles. FCA US vehicles that are so-equipped and already on today’s roads are expected to deliver more than $2.5 billion in fuel savings, while conserving more than 700 million gallons of gasoline.

The combined efficiency of the Grand Cherokee’s Pentastar-TorqueFlite pairing is primarily responsible for its 4-Star emissions rating in Japan, a key requirement of the Eco-Car tax incentive program.

Jeep is Japan’s top-selling U.S. vehicle brand. Sales hit a record high of 9,388 in 2016 – a 31.7 percent jump, year-over-year.

These sales figures paralleled Jeep’s performance on the global stage, where the brand recorded 1.42 million sales, for a year-over-year increase of 9 percent.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is produced at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.

Awe-inspiring 707 horsepower courtesy of supercharged 6.2-liter V-8
Powering the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine delivering 707 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque.

The breakthrough supercharged engine is designed and manufactured using only the strongest and most durable materials. Its cast iron block features water jackets between the cylinders for optimal cooling. A forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearing surfaces is so strong it can withstand firing pressures of nearly 1,600 psi (110 bar) – the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston, every two revolutions. The unique, specially tuned crankshaft damper has been burst tested to 13,000 rpm.

High-strength, forged-alloy pistons – developed using advanced telemetry measurement – are coupled to powder-forged connecting rods with high-load-capacity bushings and diamond-like, carbon-coated piston pins.

Premium grade, heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads are optimized for superior thermal conductivity. Sodium-cooled exhaust valves feature hollow-stem construction and special steel-alloy heads that stand up to temperatures as high as 1,652 degrees Fahrenheit (900 degrees Celsius).

The 2,380cc per revolution supercharger includes integral charge-air coolers and an integrated electronic bypass valve to regulate boost pressure to a maximum of 11.6 psi (80 kPa). The twin-screw rotors are specially coated with:

  •   a proprietary formula of polyimide and other resins
  •   nanometer-sized, wear-resistant particles
  •   solid lubricants, such as PTFE (Teflon)

The coating enables tighter clearance between the rotors. This reduces internal air leakage, delivering improved compressor performance and higher efficiencies. The coating can withstand the temperatures generated by compression, and provides superior corrosion resistance.

The supercharger is sealed for life with premium synthetic oil, uses a drive ratio of 2.36:1 and has a maximum speed of 14,600 rpm. The supercharger drive system’s one-way clutch de-coupler improves refinement, while allowing for precisely the kind of powerful sound certain to captivate Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk drivers.

Air sources for the supercharger include a cold-air scoop in the lower front fascia, which replaces the driver’s-side fog lamp and helps to feed the 92mm throttle body.

The large-nosed crankshaft drives a high-flow gerotor oil pump, which feeds a lubrication circuit that includes eight high-flow piston-cooling jets. A high-capacity oil/air heat exchanger, mounted in the front of the Trackhawk, mitigates oil temperatures when driving conditions are harshest, such as on the track.

A new low-temperature cooling system, consisting of a pump, reservoir, heat exchanger and lines, help keep the charge air cool during performance driving. This system is designed to keep intake air temperatures below 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius), under extreme ambient conditions, while enabling air flow of up to 30,000 liters per minute.

A new fuel delivery system, featuring two high-flow, multi-mode pumps, matches the high-performance demands of the engine.

Upgraded driveline components, durability and refinement result in benchmark off-road performance
The performance of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is bolstered by various upgraded driveline components engineered to handle the additional torque output from the supercharged engine.

The standard TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission delivers improved shift response, quality and consistent performance and drivability. The transmission software takes into account variables such as engine torque gradients, kick-down events, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, grade changes, friction detection and downshift detection to determine the appropriate shift map.

Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is equipped with the Jeep Quadra-Trac on-demand four-wheel-drive system, which includes an electronic limited-slip rear differential and a single-speed active transfer case. The new, full-time active transfer case uses forged steel chain sprockets and a wider chain for added strength and durability.

A strengthened rear drive shaft connects to a new, stronger rear axle. The differential features a revised housing design, revised ring-and-pinion tooth geometry and new four-point axle mounting scheme for better load distribution, additional torque capacity and overall durability. Torque is delivered to the rear wheels via new ultra-high-strength 300M low-alloy vacuum melted steel half-shafts with upgraded eight-ball outboard constant velocity joints.

Standard Launch Control optimizes the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk’s performance by coordinating the engine, transmission, driveline and suspension for a textbook launch and consistent straight-line acceleration.

A new standard Torque Reserve system provides improved engine torque response and quicker vehicle acceleration in Launch Control by pre-positioning the supercharger bypass valve to generate boost and minimize manifold filling time, while cutting fueling to individual cylinders and managing spark timing. This generates a reserve of torque that can be instantaneously delivered upon acceleration from a standing stop.

The Selec-Track system on the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk uses performance-tuned software to pre-configure and distinguish the five dynamic modes, including:  Auto, Sport, Track, Snow and Tow, enabling drivers to choose a vehicle setting that ideally meets their requirements and ambient conditions. The drive modes separately control the four-wheel-drive system, transmission, paddle shifters, suspension and the electric power steering.

Dynamic drive mode configurations include:

  • Auto — Automatically adapts to any condition; uses a 40-percent front/60-percent rear torque split
  • Sport — Transmission shift times are reduced by 50 percent versus Auto Mode; stability control, four-wheel-drive and steering systems are set for typical enthusiast driving style; paddle shifters are enabled and suspension is tightened up without increasing impact harshness to deliver increased vehicle performance capability over Auto Mode; uses 35/65 torque split
  • Track — Transmission shift times are reduced 68 percent versus Auto Mode to 160 milliseconds; stability control, four-wheel-drive and steering systems are set for ultimate track performance; paddle shifters are enabled and suspension is set to full firm to deliver maximum vehicle performance capability on smooth, dry surfaces; uses 30/70 torque split
  • Tow — Alters torque delivery off the line for greater smoothness and adjusts suspension to combat pitch and yaw to deliver maximum towing performance: uses 60/40 torque split
  • Snow — Maximizes traction to deliver optimized performance on snow and ice with reduced engine horsepower; uses 50/50 torque split

Trackhawk also features a Custom Mode that allows the driver to personalize the vehicle’s performance with a selectable driving experience offering a multitude of vehicle system combinations.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk rides on a short- and long-arm (SLA) independent front suspension with coil springs, Bilstein adaptive damping suspension (ADS), upper- and aluminum lower-control arms (“A” arms), aluminum knuckle, aluminum clevis and hollow stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is a multi-link design with coil spring, Bilstein ADS, aluminum lower control arm, independent upper links (tension and camber), plus a separate toe link, and a hollow stabilizer bar.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is capable of towing 7,200 pounds.

New benchmark SUV stopping performance
New high-performance Brembo brakes include the largest standard front brakes ever offered on a Jeep vehicle. Up front are 15.75-inch (400 mm) two-piece vented rotors with six-piston calipers painted with a new distinctive yellow finish, and 13.78-inch (350 mm) vented rotors with four-piston yellow calipers in the rear for outstanding stopping performance, heat management and durability.

The new Brembo brakes bring the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to a stop from 60 mph in 114 feet. For added safety, the anti-lock braking, electronic stability control and traction systems are uniquely tuned.
